Maryland's Eastern ShoreThe Eastern portion of Maryland located between The Chesapeake Bay and The Atlantic Ocean. Rockfish, Maryland Bluecrabs, and Oysters are the primary "agriculture" from the Chesapeake Bay while Corn, Tomatoes, Strawberries and Poultry are the primary land-based agriculture. See the many different Eastern Shore businesses in the business directory Look for Eastern Shore Businesses Eastern Shore and Chicken - In 1920 a fellow named Arthur Perdue purchased 50 chickens for $5 in Salisbury and as you may have guessed by the size of the industry that is now Perdue... that went rather well. Maryland's Eastern Shore is the largest supplier of chickens and poultry products for both Perdue and Allen Foods. Federalsburg is host to the annual Chicken Festival and home of the world's largest frying pan... it takes a rather large pan to cook up so many tender chickens. See more about Eastern Shore Agriculture Waterfowl on the Eastern Shore - while ducks and geese have been the primary "target" of waterfowl hunters for many decades, the means in which they are hunted has changed overwhelmingly. Original carved wooden decoys were somewhat crude and sold for around $5 and the original carvers of these decoys have perfected the art to an artform. Recently one of their original duck decoys was sold at auction for nearly $35,000... the Ward Brothers have come a long way in turning an artform into a true art. The Ward Brothers have set up the Ward Foundation which now is devoted to all aspects of waterfowl artworks. Decoys, statues and figurines, paintings, photos and prints and even postage stamps are all featured works of Chesapeake Bay Waterfowl.
